I want to learn self-defense and am trying to decide between BJJ, Muay Thai, and MMA.

The only reason I don't want to train Muay Thai or MMA is because of potential brain damage. BJJ I heard is bad for your joints and you can learn striking if you want to.

Is learning Muay Thai worth the brain damage tho?
youll be fine if you do some light sparring obviously if you do it competitively then youll probably get brain damage

Oh I see, so if I do Muay Thai and bjj, wouldn’t that just be MMA at that point? Should I just go to an MMA gym? 😂

according to reddit fellas mma gyms are much better than gyms where you train the martial arts individually so id go for that instead

Why would this happen??? u're not going to become a professional fighter anyway, this will just be for hobby and selfdefense.
BJJ I heard is bad for your joints and you can learn striking if you want to.
Any shit u heard ignore it. The worst that can happen is that u'll get slightly hurt (and ofc, u'll be fighting. What u expect?)
I would recommend mma, u will learn a little bit of everything
Look for a good gym, with good and trustworthy professionals !!

For the rest of world? Yes, but not where bjj came from.
I've never trained in another country so idk, but here bjj does involve standing work. The Gracie family taught me "everything"

Idk how its trained in academies, but when I watch judo fights I get sad, brah. These rules are destroying the sport too
(so bjj I think in the rest of the world they train based on championship rules Idk)

aha i know what u mean now, they are forbidding a lot of takedowns in the olympics (such as the leg ones), which is reducing its effectiveness in the real world (as they dont teach it anymore in dojos)

Go to a good local mma gym if you have the money

They should offer lots of different types of martial arts and you can see which you like the most

I do Muay thai it's hella fun and youre not gonna get brain damage from just light sparring

But MMA is definitely best if you wanna be as good at fighting as possible

wrestling mogs for self-defense
everybody that says wrestling is cage
OP will literally get disgusted off wrestling let's say he's new and late teens, he literally cannot handle the bodyweight + the cardio for it
wrestling "mogs" for self defense when you've been used to it and doing it
You need the body weight for that
thanks for saying that, insane how people are recommending it to him

OP if you just want self defense, do boxing or muay thai, a year of muay thai/boxing + just some extreme basics in bjj will give u the upper hand on 99% of people in fights, literally not lying, most people can't even throw ap unch

Yeah it’s just luck at that point hoping you strike at the right time or just get the fuck away but wrestling your really close so that’s riskier
