I talked to my orthodontist since he First proposed me to wear braces with elastics and pull back the upper teeth, i refused that and he said that he Will no longer pull my upper teeth back but he Will move my lower jaw forward, can he do that? should I trust him?

I’m very suspicious because that’s the same thing my ortho told me. I think it’s better just to not wear elastics.

He’s still gonna push your maxilla backwards but he’s telling you that he’s merely bringing your lower jaw forward because he thinks there wont be any way for you to tell, don’t see him again, no retraction orthodontics!

if you have jaw and palate problems get the right osteotomies and palatal expansion if you need it and then get invisalign or braces afterwards

It’s funny how all these orthos say the same thing when we have concerns, evil fucks! Do you reckon just having braces without elastics will recess anything or no ?

depends if your jaws and palate are already good, if they are then just braces won’t harm but if you get braces while having small palate and misaligned jaw your gonna waste your time cuz you’ll eventually have to fix what i mentioned and then get braces again

Yes my palate is small, and my ortho is telling me ridiculous things. He said if I want to expand my palate he will need to extract teeth. Sounds very counter-intuitive. Jaws have decent forward growth though.

I’m stopping treatment. Hopefully he hasn’t done too much damage because my palate actually seems smaller than before treatment. Terrible waste of money and time. How can I go about finding an ortho or maxfac who cares about aesthetics ?

Braces cannot move your lower jaw. Ask your orthodontist to decompensate your teeth for lower/double jaw surgery.

depends where you live but just tell them that you have breathing airway problems and crowded teeth and tell them you want referral to get opinion from a maxfac and make sure they know all about mse bane fme etc…

What is your goal?

Do you want perfectly straight teeth only?

Then just braces will do.

Do you want perfectly straight teeth and to move your lower jaw forward?

Then you need braces + jaw surgery.

Braces alone will not move your lower jaw.

Yes that’s exactly what I’m going to do, breathing seems to have gotten worse with these braces as well. I live in the UK. Hopefully I can find some good maxfacs otherwise I need to go to Italy or Switzerland

I know, I'm saying I have to tell him to straighten them if i want to do surgery? because he already straighten my upper ones so I would only Need the lower ones then i can get surgery

btw i already booked an appointment with the Maxillofacial Ramieri for the 13th of July, but I have an appointment with the ortho before that, that's why I am asking to you. I would prefer to not get jaw surgery but If it's necessary then I'll think about it

Oh it doesn't work like that.

If you are going to get jaw surgery, they mostly likely need to undo the straightening that was done.

So you are going to have to undo the work that was previously done cause they need to decompensate your teeth (both upper and lower). Decompensate means to stretch the teeth far out as they can to see how much of your problem is skeletal vs. dental.

Now you may have a different case, but speak with your orthodontist.

so like if i would like to get surgery I have to go out with shit teeth for months before i actually get surgery, like if he pulls my upper teeth forward i Will look even more recessed

That's precisely it.

You'll look more subhuman before the surgery. That's also my fate as well 😓

At least we got masks.

Think long term. Jaw surgery will fix your profile either way.

If you get that, it’s over. Maxilla will be retracted.
That's my goal I have bimax protrusion so no other option plus my ramus is pre good so slight retraction there is fine and if it fails oh well either way it's over

oh then i don't know much about that so ask someone that's expert about that

He’s referring to moving teeth on your lower arch forward, not the jaw itself that’s anatomically impossible

will it create problems if i do that and then want to get surgery?

I don’t know why you’re fucking about moving teeth in the first place, don’t do it and get BSSO
