So basically, cumulonimbus clouds are the tipycal storm cloud that can go up to 12km in the atmosphere and are the clouds that cause lightning/rain/thunder/tornadoes
They start from a normal cumulus cloud (cumulus humilis) ascending in the air Rising up to a cumulus mediocris and a congestus. A congestus is a cumulus cloud that surfaces up to 8 km and can cause medium size showers and little thunder. Howewer its really rare because the winds aren't strong enough to generate the thunder itself (ill explain in a bit). If you go up even more you get a cumulonimbus calvus (a flat cumulonimbus cloud without the anvil on top) a capillatus and finally, a cumulonimbus incus, the most mature stage of a storm. It happens when the sun heats up the ground heating up also the lower strates of air, causing it to rise up and reach the del point temperature in the sky until it reaches the tropopause, where the air si more stable and the winds spread the cloud making it anvil-shape
Lightnings are made when the droplets of water and hail collide fiercely because of the strong winds, the droplets with a positive charge go up into the cloud creating an electric field and discharging lightning
