can i grow my hair back from surgery

I got a surgery when i was 14 and cause of it i lost like all my huge amout of my hair i had norwood 2 to 3 but i still could see hair but it was tiny and barely even grew for a 1 year and when i was 15 i started minoxidil with derma roller. If i stop minoxidil i would prob lose my hair but idk if to begin i had hair growing or not and my money getting tight. Do i stop minoxidil and hope i still have hair or continue?
