All animals respond to a positive feedback loop. You do something, get a reward, you like the dopamine rush. So you do it again and so on.

When you work hard and get nothing to show for it, you lose all motivation to continue. It's biological, not psychological.

I agree, but your sense of reward is relative. If you are ugly you have an unfair effort/reward structure in your life compared to other, better-looking people. An ugly person can get laid with ugly women, but he will have to put in significant effort. Something which a chad(lite) would get very easily through something like tinder.

It's mental suicide to compare yourself to other people, especially as an ugly person, because it will throw you into a negative feedback loop. The best is to compare yourself to your past self.

Comparing yourself to other people struggling in life due to their looks, like on .co , often just leads to a crabs in a bucket situation.
