I'm out of the loop what's up with subreddits going dark and privatized and unable to be viewed by the average user after July 1st?

Reddit is making browser services like Firefox and chrome pay for their own data traffic or some shit because they changed data format

Basically reddit being dicks, redditors closing their subreddits so site traffic decreases and people complain so they change it back
