Tbh most of the math I've learnt in high school and even in my undergrad I barely use as a dev. Only probability and a bit of linear algebra for things like machine learning that's it. There was no point in calc 3 and differential equations but they still forced us to learn it

that’s what i hate about the education system. they force people to learn a bunch of complex concepts (like calc 3 if you’re major requires it) and you don’t even use it. it’s a waste of time for everyone taking that class unless they are guaranteed to use those concepts in their profession everyday.

that’s what i hate about the education system. they force people to learn a bunch of complex concepts (like calc 3 if you’re major requires it) and you don’t even use it. it’s a waste of time for everyone taking that class unless they are guaranteed to use those concepts in their profession everyday.

Agreed most of the stuff I learnt in my CS degree I don't even put them to use. CS degrees are mostly there to give a structured path to give you a high level overview om all the concepts in Computers. If you specifically want to study to become a coder, embedded systems engineer or only do things specific to one IT role you can complete the entire syllabus and learn everything you need to know for an entry level roles in just a few months. This is one of the reasons I think CS degree isn't too important to become a great coder. I've known people who never went to uni but are still great coders, a CS degree helps for sure tho.

I agree. To get a CS degree that means you have to do 2 years of General Education which is a waste of time imo especially for CS. Then you have to study the high level concepts of computers, (i don’t actually think this is a bad thing to know especially for a coder, so i wouldn’t label it as a waste). But for sure you could definitely learn the ins and outs of coding in a few months tops, just with disciplined learning and efficiency.
