Can you still reach some of your genetic potential with Gym maxing

I had a hard childhood and was fairly malnourished and have always been borderline underweight(avg height 120lbs). Is it possible to gym max and gain like 40lbs (don’t even care about body fat at this point I feel and look so bad) or is it just cope? I have decent genetics with brad-lite cromagnun skull but I feel as though i’ve ignored my health for too long. I’m just feeling really black pilled after having a surgery to correct a deformity messed up my pec muscles some. Im in my mid 20s btw and probably have ehler danlos if that matters for gains or am I perma lanklet.
