Ever since birth, the only thing you have experienced is being alive. Think about it. Every experience you've ever had has one thing in common - you were alive to experience it.
When you're in a boxing match, and the opponent knocks you out, leading to a blackout.. you only know that happened because you woke up. If you didn't wake up, what then?
Same way as being knocked out, sleeping is also very easy to imagine. You fall asleep, lose consciouness, and then wake up. But in death, you don't wake up.
So what do you imagine when someone tells you to 'imagine being dead'? Is it floating in darkness? Is is heaven or reincarnation? Maybe endless sleep or infinite void? Either way, everything you imagine still has you in it. What you're imagining is still being concious, so in the end, can your brain even begin to comprehend the concept of death?
This exact topic is the reason why people find comfort in religions or have panic attacks over the thought of being dead. Religions tell you that there's something after death. Whether it's valhalla or heaven, ascension or reincarnation, there's always SOMETHING - like being knocked out, and waking up again. It's something you can imagine, because it ends up with you being conscious, which is why it's comfortable.
Death being unimaginable is one of my favorite things to think about. And i'm not the only one.
Humans have tried to solve death for thousands of years and yet it's the one thing we still have no anwsers about. Billions of people died in history and we still have nothing. We solved electricity, diseases, physics, geology, chemistry, we've split a fucking atom and yet the most common thing in the world - death - is where we're forced to draw a line.
