I have question? Would you rather be an investment banking analyst at Goldman Sachs making $200k scales to 1-2 million if you stick around but work for 60-80 hours a week for would you rather work as software engineer in the same company's R and D department working for $140k caps at $800k as MD of engineering but always 40-50 hours a week

I guess this is one of the reasons why people rarely stay at the top for more than a few years and usually resign. The per hour rates is roughly similar but analyst in IBs directly impact revenue so they are paid higher. They are the ones putting on a show while the engineer are behind the scenes

They try to pivot into Private equity, private credit, hedge funds ect where the pay is still top but work/life is slightly better. Thats the goal for them at least. I donโ€™t think most plan to climb up to managing director

IB, the bonuses are massive, stick it out for a few years and then do whatever I want.
