Cephalic index affects facial aesthetics, but there’s a better ratio to use that serves the intended purpose.

How cephalic index falls short: I move this guy’s ears forwards, leaving his cephalic index unchanged.

1747100583084 1747100589773

Goes from a pretty good-looking profile to a literal deformed fucking subhuman.

But the problem that makes him subhuman is essentially the same problem that (many but not all) brachycephalics have: an overly short (a.k.a. shallow) anterior cranium. The anterior section of the cranium is the part that makes up the face. Brachy face is the real problem, not so much brachy skull. The occipital depth is irrelevant to the aesthetics of the face.

This guy’s face is brachy af, and he probably has a dolichocephalic ceph index:

So we should retire the cephalic index and popularize this ratio instead:

the distance from the nasion (where the nose bridge goes inwards) to the tragus (a part of the ear) in profile view / the head’s width

I call it the anterior cephalic index. Cus fuck posterior. Including the posterior is a cope for dolicho subhumans like the dude above.

Thoughts?

I think we can try a bit harder with the name. Remove 'index' because this isn't used for sorting anything... unless its used for sorting penis into drippy pussy, I guess.

How bout, temporal dominance ratio. TDR for short. Because you are quite right. This is a matter of shape and length of the temporal bone of the skull (and upper maxilla). Chad's have a high TDR, which makes them look forward grown. Seems as if there is an illuminating link between upper maxillary projection and length of the temporal bone. This is so inspiring.

fck, @thecel you got to tag your scholarly fellows. I am just as interested in looks theory as you are.

The difference between these two images is nothing though. Submental is the same and cheekbones are the same relative to the eyes. They would look almost identical from the front.

Huge diff in mandible length and ramus that will become apparent at different focal lengths. Thecel is exaggerating about the differences however.

Well it works for me. High-IQ coping mechanism. My coping mechanism usually involves raging at Russians in a match of CS.

This ratio is the reason this meme wasn't debunked from the get-go

The brachy in the image has a high TDR but also a high cephalic index.

High IQ and correct. I have seen many brachyceplahic chads with a massive anterior skull and mandible.

Is he even brachy tbh? Looks high orthocranic to maybe slightly chamaecranic, skull looks plenty long

any idea on what the average distance is from the tragus to nasion? is it generally proportional to mandibular body length?
