Medical disclaimer and overview.

This guide is designed to provide an overview of Cranial Facial Release (CFR) and its impact on the size and shape of the skull. If, at any point, the content of this guide is not clear or fully understood, I strongly advise against attempting or practicing CFR. IF you use CFR you do so at your own risk. If you are considering CFR for therapeutic purposes, consult with a healthcare professional or a certified practitioner who can provide personalized advice and guidance based on your individual health needs and conditions.

What is CFR and how does it work?

Cranial Facial Release (CFR) is therapeutic technique involving the careful insertion and inflation of a small balloon within the nasal passages. This process is designed to adjust and optimize the craniofacial structure, aiming to enhance overall wellness and function. How this works is: A balloon is gently inflated for a brief moment while still in the nasal passage. This inflation exerts a controlled pressure on the surrounding craniofacial bones, particularly targeting the sphenoid bone and cranial sutures.

How does this affect skull size?
Due to the applied pressure on the cranial sutures, the mobility of the skull bones can be enhanced. This means that when combined with orthodontic devices like (MSE), braces, headgear, and other appliances focusing on the facial bones, their effectiveness can be significantly increased. These devices, aimed at adjusting facial structure, will work with CFR and change the size of your skull. With a cracking sound being a release of tension on the skull. By making sutures more mobile you can increase forward growth.

Run-down of CFR procedure as a patient:
  • They will usually start with an assessment of your condition, focusing any potential restrictions within the sutures, facial bones, and the spine.
  • When the MD is prepared for the procedure, you will often lying on their back on a treatment table. The MD explains the process, making sure you as the patient understands each step.
  • A small, soft, balloon is carefully inserted into one of the patient's nasal passages. The exact positioning depends on the specific area of the cranial structure being targeted.
  • The balloon is then gently inflated for a few seconds to apply controlled pressure on the surrounding cranial bones. You are expected to hold a deep breath as told by the MD. You will feel a deep sense of pressure in the skull but then a satisfying release.
  • After , the balloon is carefully deflated and removed. The process may be repeated in the same or different nasal passage, depending on the treatment plan.
  • Following the procedure, the MD may perform another assessment to gauge effects of the treatment on the patient's cranial structure and symptoms

Health benefits of CFR
  • Better breathing
  • TMJ relief
  • Better posture
  • Neck pain and back pain relief
  • Clearing nasal congestion
