Chess and high IQ

I see many people in chess acting like their high Elo makes them smart. I have around 2300 Elo myself, and I don’t think I’m especially smart and i suck at math. Is the link between Elo and IQ real, or is it mostly BS?

My younger brother is really smart- medical doctor, who graduated with a bachelors degree in Chemistry and a close to 4.0 gpa. Not very good at chess.

Then again, there are some average IQ black nigger chess hustlers in NYC who can beat everyone in chess.

I don't think being good at chess is "high iq"

It's the same as any other game. But it does require alot of thinking and logic, so if you're like really good at it chances are that you may be high iq.

i think so

you need good foresight and strategy to plan ahead, awareness of the board, pattern recognition

i'd say its a bad predictor of other iq feats though like spatial reasoning, or logical ability like math

generally, good at chess = high iq, good at math = high iq, good at chess ≠ good at math
