In the first pic, his head is tilted slightly more down. Which is why his ears are higher relative to the eyes than they are in the second pic. Because he's tilting his head down, the top of his head comes forward and the rest slightly tilts towards the ground, making the cheekbones less laterally prominent.

The rest is just the expression. The slight smile in the first pic slightly rounds out the lower cheeks, making the cheekbones les prominent and sharp
