Chin augmentation makes no sense

I want to make my chin wider and taller but I don’t see how the new chin will taper and blend with the mandible smoothly. If you make just the chin taller with genio then surely it would just create a “hanging chin” effect and droop down towards the end? Likewise, if you made just the chin wider with implants than surely it would protrude beyond the mid-mandible sideways and look unnatural?

Surely you would need to augment the entire mandible for it to look natural and aesthetic?

you could just look at genio results to see that you're mistaken. as for why, i don't know exactly. it probably has to do with soft tissue.

i have a chin implant. it goes like halfway up my mandible then stops and there's a big step off. but it doesn't matter because my masseter sits right on top of it.

I’ve only really had a quick look and it’s hard to tell what some of the procedures even are (whether the focus was height or projection) so I can’t really make a conclusion. Most results are from oldcels too with sagging skin so I can’t see the actual jaw shape. I’m scared that for me I would be able to see the “drop”.

It does seem to be the case though that most chin procedures turn out fine and there’s nothing to worry about but then I’m curious as to why.

What? That was definitely not the case when I looked at examples of genioplasty about 2 years ago. Have a bunch of elderly people gotten genioplasty and posted their pics since then?

I've never seen a genioplasty case where you can see the "shelf"--and that includes large genioplasty movements, such as 12mm. (You could search "genioplasty 12mm" or "genioplasty 10mm" for examples.) The only time I have seen this dynamic is with large BSSO movements, and sometimes the patients go on to get custom implants that "smooth out" the unnatural angles.

Hence why you need jaw angle implants afterwise to fill the space created by the movement and add angularity.

It’s just that I haven’t seen one picture of a guy with an actual defined jaw. If their jaw was wide and defined then I’m sure the weird angles would be visible.
