I've read that Xenon, being an inert (lack of chemical reactivity = lower risk of complications) noble gas, is in effect a safer choice of GA. In fact, it's been shown to even be neuro/cardio-protective, whereas the ones they usually give you will give you brain fog for at least a week following surgery.

However, since it can only be extracted from atmospheric air, it's much more rare (= expensive, about 20 times more so than what you'd usually be given). This is why it's almost never used routinely during surgeries, and only has been used as part of studies/research.

If you have the money to pay for it, could you plausibly ask your anesthesiologist to use this instead?
