I don't even care about religion, but my main gripe about it is that hell is essentially the absence of God. The way you get to hell is by either sinning or rejecting God. However, what about people who are murderers? Murderers don't choose to have murderous intent; they are born with it. They feel the need to kill just like the need to drink and eat, so how is it just to send these people to hell even though they didn't choose to feel intense murderous instincts?
Also, I think many atheists agree that even though hell is just a mute void of nothingness, they would consider that to be significantly worse than being in a paradise of joy, which heaven is. So, if God loves all His children unconditionally, why not create an area in which people who reject God can do as they please and be free, instead of just sending them off into nothingness?
