If you think about it. Evolutionarily, ignoring today's beauty standards (that will always fluctuate in society)... say we go back in time to anywhere from 2.5 million years ago to 10,000 BCE.
The dude who is going to be seen as the most desirable from an evolutionary POV, would be the most dimorphic/"manly" one back then.

A person who strays as far as possible from a woman physically.
So the balding brute would've been preferred

Tbh I think iq, creativity , physical strength, and competency is the most important thing for men. Like for example building walls, making traps, making weapons and training in using them etc. Hunt with the boys and stuff

Yeah especially in today's world, but if you think about it back then we didn't live by ourselves, or just with your partner. You used to live in a group with other humans
So ingenuity would've been overlooked when it came to social hierarchy, that would've been completely based on physicality/ perceived physicality (dimorphism).
Nobody is going to set a trap to kill the other guy in the group. It's just the most physically capable guy would reap the rewards and breed the women

Nah I think good leadership was the most important. Strength matters for sure but if you're a strong asshole they can just get rocks and spears and gang up and easily kill you. Humans are social creatures after all. Usually the stringe and smart are at the top of the hierarchy but within the tribe. Can't be a dictator/king solo
