Every now and then I’ll get a delivery for a decent amount. An amount that implies they tipped me a few bucks. Then when I drop off the food I see that there was no tip and the base DoorDash pay was increased.
Drivers get offered an order and decide for themselves if they want to take it based on the pay, distance, etc. A tip is incentive for drivers to take your order so you aren’t waiting forever for your food.
If you don’t want to pay a driver, no one will want to be your driver. That’s common sense. If you can afford the meal and the DoorDash fees, you can tip a dollar or three. But no, instead DoorDash picks up the slack and helps them buy their food.
What’s the common denominator between all of these orders? They were placed by black women. There is literally a black female discount on DoorDash.
