Long midface isnt complete death if you have long mandible, long ramus, and long and tall chin like Bateman.

I'd say the ideal is around 1-1.05. As a rule of thumb, the longer your midface the taller and more prominent your chin should be in order to make up for it. Though, at one point even a tall chin won't save you if you have a legit horseface.
