1.INTRODUCTION
Comprehension is fundamental to learning and remembering information, so do you want to understand everything you read? then this guide is for you make sure to read it all and rep me. Hope you enjoy it
2.Preparation
- Be related to topic you are reading, have a pre-existing knowledge, for example: lets say you take philosopher Immanuel Kant's book, which is pretty hard to understand
- What you should do is: know philosophy (obviously, this is essential), research author's biography, read articles, essays, see videos, get related to topic as much as possible before you start reading.
- Vocabulary: if you dont know philosophy terms, how are you going to understand shit? this is no brainer, applies to every topic, enrich your vocabulary especially if its foreign language.
- Set a goal, have a purpose, this is important, our monkey brain does not know abstract goals and purpose, you will lose motivation easily, what you should do is "feel" what it would be like to reach goal. example: imagine you already understood that book and now you are using the knowledge you acquired, now you can chase that feeling.
- Gather materials: paper, pen, sticky notes, internet.
- Make sure text is difficult enough to challenge you, but not too much, otherwise you will lose interest and motivation. if topic is too hard, enrich pre-existing knowledge even further.
3.Actively engage with material
- chunking: break down information into smaller parts.
- Question yourself constantly: this is really important, you have to always infer yourself, ideally you want to come up with questions and answer it. i guess you can use AI for questions, but as i said you would want to come up with it on your own.
- Structure and organizing: you could use some types of schemes/diagrams, to make it easily understandable.
- Explain information in your own words, if you can explain information to little kid then you understood it.
- Connect to already existing knowledge, ideas, information, concepts.
- Use imagination: self-explanatory, imagine the process or look up the process in internet with animation. for example: if you are studying biology, look up how mitochondria works, with animation.
- Problem-solving: self-explanatory.
- Meta cognition: planning, spotting weakness, adjusting plans, you have to understand what works for specific topic (e.g. theory, practice or both), self-monitor, you have to know whether you actually understand it or not.
- Debate/discuss with others, especially debating where your position is constantly being attacked, this is probably the best way to actively engage with given information. if you dont have anyone to discuss with use chatgpt or other AI's, make sure to give him specific prompt or that nigga will agree with you on anything.
- DO NOT REREAD: fuck that teacher who told you to reread question when you could not understand it. What you should actually do is go do something fun and come back to information later, since dopamine and serotonin can boost comprehension. Also make sure "something fun" is not related with phone, especially doomscrolling.
- Practice: do i really need to say this? none of these things i mentioned will do shit if you dont practice for a week or 2 (depends on person).
4. Other tips
- Make sure you slept good, you are not eating like shit and drink water.
- Be focused on subject, make sure to remove all distractions.
5."Must to do"
You probably read all of this and now you are thinking "do i need to do allat for one thing" i would say not really if you are lazy or dont have time, so i will tell you what are "must to do's"
1. Related to subject.
2. Choosing perfect difficulty.
3. Questioning yourself.
4. Not rereading, instead doing something fun and then coming back.
5. Constant practice.
6. Meta cognition.
Conclusion
Most important part as i said was practice. Also, dont beat yourself up if you cant understand something, you cant believe how much time it took me to understand even single sentence sometimes, its natural feeling. Hope you enjoyed the guide, stay tuned for ultimate memory guide.
Too lazy, besides nobody really reads this.
