Of course only having confidence is getting you no where, but it is very important.
Why am i saying this?
Woman often seek a partner who provides emotional and physical stability. A man who lacks confidence is easily rattled by stress, rejection or pressure.
In contrast a confident man acts like an emotional anchor you could say. Because of the calm presence he subconsciously signals to a woman that she is safe and can relax her guard.
Biologically confidence is connected to your endocrine system ( to be specific the ratio of testosterone ) to the cortisol (stress hormone)
Women possess a highly evolved subconscious ability to detect s Mans cortisol levels through subtle facial curs and behavior. A man who remains calm signals that heβs biologically calm and enough to handle environmental stress without panicking.
How is that proven to be true?
Researchers wanted to know if woman preferred high testosterone (aggressive, macho style) or a low cortisol (calm and confident) guy
They measured the exact Testosterone of a group of young men. They then looked at neutral pictures of these mens faces and had a group of women rate them for attractiveness. Weirdly every women preferred the guy with the lowest cortisol.

Evolutionary psychology is driven by the the concept of hypergamy the innate drive to select a mate of atleast equal or even better a higher status to ensure the best survival odds for the offspring. If a man is nervous or overly accommodating around an attractive woman his body language mimics a submissive like posture in the hierarchy.
Confidence demonstrated through direct eye contact for example and holding ones ground ,signals dominance.
What did they do to find out?
Psychologists kenrick, sadalla and vershure designed a controlled vidoe experiment to isolate dominance from physical looks.
They hired actors and recorded them interacting with others.
In one set of the videos the men displayed a dominant / confident behaviors - they held eye contact, initiated conversations and took up physical space. And in other videos the men then displayed a very submissive behavior by looking away all the time , agreeing excessively and keeping a tight posture like keeping their limbs attached to their body.
And what did the women prefer?
woman who watched the videos rated the confidence / dominance men as significantly more sexually attractive. They did not rate them like nicer or more approachable, likeable. Proving that confidence triggeres raw romantic attraction independently of how friendly a man seems.

Because choosing a poor mate carries a high biologically cost for women the female brain looks for social proof that a man is safe and a high quality choice. This phenomenon is also called mate choice copying.
When a man behaves with absolute confidence it creates a cognitive illusion in a womans brain, she assumes he acts this way because other women have already validated him.
