Conquest is one of the only characters alongside Thaedus and Nolan who understood that what they were doing was stupid and unecessary. However, Conquest is the only one who became aware of his atrocities through age not a one off planetary incursion encounter. Whats interesting is that amongst all the Viltrumites, he is the only one who does not change despite understanding the reality of the Empire's actions. Virtually all Viltrumites change when they spend time away from Viltrum. Conquest just remains the same, if not more bloodthirsty. Conquest is also a perfect example of the degenracy of the Viltrum Empire. He is one of the strongest and the one most adherent to Strength Above All doctrine, Purge the Weak doctrine, yet he is considered an outcast for being an ideal Viltrumite. Even Viltrumites are internally disgusted by the ramifications of their culture.

the reason he didn't stop despite feeling some level of guit for his actions is the fact that he started to enjoy it, the violence the carnage, this is a textbook creation of a sociopath, they realize the effect of their actions on other people and feel some superficial level of guilt every now and then but they'll keep doing it anyway.
