VS paying out of pocket, or going to a blackpilled surgeon like Giant

Always depends on the surgeon and planning beforehand.

Look for a surgeon that is covered by your insurance and check with reviews on different independent review platforms, to rate his skill level.

Even better if he got before/after results on his website, which are backed by good public perception regarding the surgeon.

I was told here, that insurance will not cover most movements so surgeons are limited in the approach they take to fix the malocclusion

Speak to the orthodontist and let him plan the surgery together with you and send it to insurance for approval.

Depending on your malocclusion they may or may not cover some movements, but it is always good to try.

Otherwise save up for the extra costs.
