Consensus on training obliques?

So , should you do it for a better v taper ? Or it would give you the opposite effect and make your lower part of the upper body appear bigger ?

if u have wide hips u should train ur obliques, it straightens it so they dont look wide

Here's the thing, if you're not lean, yes, it most definitely will give the appearance of a wider waist (not really in clothing, more when you're shirtless), but when you're leaner it does the opposite since it gives that illusory tapering effect due to its, well, oblique shape.

Then it doesn't matter, in fact I'd say go ahead & train them

For people with wide hips, it can sometimes be bad to train obliques. It depends on insertions & just how different the proportions of your ribs, waist & hips are.
