Continued Thinning After Switching Finasteride Brand — Anyone Else Experience This?

Been on 1mg finasteride daily consistently for a year and nine months now, originally getting it through Lemonaid Health’s mail-order pharmacy. I was seeing decent maintenance — not much regrowth, but hairline recession pretty much stopped, and I had some sexual sides (less hard erections, watery semen), which kind of reassured me that the drug was doing something.

In late January of this year, I switched the prescription to my local CVS to save some money and get easier refills. Since the switch:
  • I’ve noticed more shedding in the shower, especially around the frontal hairline (which is already my weakest area).
  • My hair is starting to look visibly thinner with see-through density, especially under bright light or when styled with a middle part.
  • Oddly, the sexual sides have decreased — I’m getting more spontaneous erections again, and my semen consistency feels more like it did pre-fin.
I know all finasteride generics are technically supposed to be equivalent, but I’ve seen enough posts now to start wondering if some brands hit harder than others for certain people. (See first and most recent front hairline pics)

Has anyone else experienced this after switching brands?
Do you think it’s worth:
  • Going back to Lemonaid for consistency?
  • I do NOT use minoxidil currently. Should I consider minoxidil or switching to dut for better frontal results?

Open to advice — I’ve been very consistent with dosing, and this is the only real change I can link to the uptick in shedding and decrease in side effects, besides some stress from starting a Master's degree and moving houses. Done Imagefixed Edited Image2

1mg fin with topical minoxidil, don’t switch things for several months. You’re probably going through a shed right now
