Disclaimer-

In this thread we will focus on only two specific application cases. The first being application to the upper lip area and the second being to the upper eyelid area. It is important to remember that different skin types may react in a variety of ways to some of these products. It is possible that one might experience acute dermal irritation after attempting to use these products. Furthermore, these products are not necessarily the most cost effective. It will likely be somewhat difficult to source cost effects iterations of these products and for some people this will not be a softmax which can easily be incorporated into a daily or weekly protocol due to financial circumstances. While I have not come across any examples of these products which are exorbitantly expensive, all the products I have come across have been somewhat expensive (prices range from 5$-$60). Nonetheless, in my opinion these items are worth it and it is probably worth it to try them at least once to see if the results are satisfactory. Within each section of this thread, there will be links that can direct anyone interested to relevant tutorial videos, purchasable products, and examples of the items themselves. Before we continue I would like to make it clear that I am not vouching for the quality of any of the specific products I will be linking below, they are merely examples.

Preamble-

Cosmetic lift adhesives are products which can be purchased easily and can be utilized as soon as one gets a hold of them. The MOA (for lack of better terminology) of these items is simply that they can be applied to any area of the face where they can pull and hold the soft tissue of the face (or anywhere on the body) in a taught manner. They can be used strategically so that the user can temporarily attain mild to significant alterations in the perception of their facial structure. Common application areas for these items are as follows; the upper-mid lip (cupid's bow) , the upper eyelids, the ears (they can be used to pin back the ears temporarily), and plenty of other places/ways. These items are easy to use, have a low failure rate, are reversible, and in some cases can be maintained (safely) for somewhat long durations of time. This thread will comprise of two main sections, one dedicated to the eyelids and one to the lips. There will also be one additional section that is still related but is less conventional. With that being said, let's begin learning about this under-discussed and potentially high roi softmax.

Eyelids-

Double Eyelid lift strips:

Eyelid lift strips are thin, pre-cut sections of plastic. They are usually double-sided and the adhesive can sometimes be wiped away (accidentally) with the finger tips if the user is not careful. A strip is positioned on the upper eyelid to hold the soft tissue in a higher/more folded position. They should be placed along or just above the natural crease. These products can be used both as a way to reduce un-ideal eyelid hooding, or the increase, to enhance eyelid hooding.

Assuming the majority of you will be interested in how they can be used to get more hooding, it is important for you to note that the intended purpose of most of these products is unfortunately the opposite. While there are plenty of products designed to enhance hooding, The ones that are made to reduce hooding may be slightly more common. In the case that you only have those types available, there is a way to circumvent the issue. The way to do this is to cut a 0.2cm x 0.2cm portion of the strip and place it on the relaxed upper eyelid area. Then you can either pull the soft tissue above the superior orbital rim over the small portion of the adhesive strip, and press the skin together until the adhesive binds them. This may take some testing as different people may prefer/require a greater or lesser amount of the adhesive strips to successfully and comfortably achieve the hooding. The advantage of this is that one can essentially customize the level of hooding. Pulling and sticking more skin will give great levels of hooding, and vice versa.

Liquid Cosmetic Adhesives:

Liquid eyelid cosmetic adhesives are used to get the same results as the eyelid tapes discussed above. They are also sold as ‘eyelid glues’. These products offer temporary results and can be used in the same way (mechanistically) as the eyelid tapes. Users of these products can apply and brush the adhesive solutions to the upper eyelid and then roll or pull the skin above the superior orbital rim over the adhesive. These products offer the same benefits as the eyelid tapes. To some people (myself included) the physical application process of these products is slightly more straightforward and because of that, these products are perhaps better than eyelid tapes. Another possible advantage that these products hold over eyelid tapes, is that they are more optimal to be intentionally misused in other areas (the lips). This will be discussed more below.

Use cases:

To enhance upper eyelid hooding

To reduce upper eyelid exposure

As a possible youth/alastin indicator in the skin

And more

Lips-

Upper-lip Lifting Tapes:

Upper-lip lifting tapes are products intended to mechanically reposition the upper-lip skin for a short-term lip-lift effect. They are placed on the skin just above the upper lip/Cupid’s-bow area. They should not be placed on the actual vermilion zone tissue, only the skin just above the cupid's bow. The user then rolls or pulls the skin upward so the upper lip rolls or everts slightly. The purpose is to temporarily increase visible vermilion (the lips), specifically to emphasize the Cupid’s bow, make the upper lip appear fuller, and possibly make the philtrum appear shorter. similar to some visual effects of a surgical lip lift. These products must be positioned to create the desired upward vector, so that skin is gently brought into the intended position while the adhesive sets. These tapes usually last about a day.

Upper-lip Lift glue:

Lip-lifting glue would is applied and used (mechanistically) in the same way lip-lift tape is. Unlike adhesive strips, a liquid formulation supposedly can allow more precise application and adjustment of the lifting area. As mentioned above, some of the eyelid glue solutions can also potentially be used for this purpose (on the lips), rendering the eyelid glue a possible best option as a catch-all product that can be used in multiple beneficial ways.

Upper-lip Lifting Glue Solutions:

Upper-lip lifting glue solutions are designed to elevate the upper-lip skin and create a subtle lip-lift appearance in a very similar (really exactly the same) way as the lip-lift tapes.

The glue solutions are applied in the same exact place as the lip-lift tape and last for about as long as the tapes do. The glue is sparingly and gently brushed upon the cupids-bow area soft tissue and then the user rolls or pulls the skin into the desired lip lift like appearance.

Use cases:

To correct un-even lip proportion (if the bottom lip is larger than the top one for example)

As a health indicator

To reduce visible philitrum length

To correct down-turned cupids-bows

And more

A Less Conventional, but Still Relevant Additional Method-

There are actually a variety of other options for items that can be used to improve the lips and eyelids, through the same mechanism as the aforementioned methods. The majority of such items come in the form of skin safe glues (commonly used for extreme makeup projects like for movies or modeling). I have found two potentially good options for these types of glue products.

Mehron Makeup Spirit Gum & Remover Kit:

This is a glue and glue remover kit that can be used in the exact same way as the other liquid adhesives we have already discussed. This is a little more complicated than the other options for liquid adhesives because this one requires you to use a removal solution to take off the glue instead of it simply wearing off/coming off at the slightest exposure to water.

Medical Grade soft-tissue Glue:

As the name suggests, these are medical supplies and are certainly not designed to be used cosmetically. However from the (somewhat cursory) research I have done, these adhesives appear to be a good alternative option to the other items. As you would probably assume, these glue solutions would be applied and utilized in the same way as the other products we went over earlier. In order to wash these off you will need to rub the area with isopropyl alcohol or mineral oil (ideally use the mineral oil). These glues can be used 4-5 times a week, and if irritation occurs then you will need to stop using them.

TL;DR

  • Upper eyelids: Eyelid tapes and liquid eyelid glue can be used to change the amount of eyelid hooding/exposure. You can adjust where you place them and how much skin you pull over them, so the result can be pretty customizable.
  • Upper lip: Lip-lift tapes or liquid glue go on the skin right above the Cupid’s bow, not directly on the lip itself. You pull the skin upward while the adhesive sets, which can make the upper lip look fuller, make the Cupid’s bow stand out more, and make the philitrum look shorter.
  • Other adhesives: Things like spirit gum and some skin-safe adhesives can work through the same basic idea, although they're generally less convenient and may need special removers.
  • they're interesting because: They're cheap-ish, temporary, reversible, non-surgical, and can produce an immediate visual change.
