Could bonesmashing be flattening your bones long-term?

It's very common for boxers to have flat knuckles due to repeated hitting. You can see their knuckles change over the years. What if the same happens when you repeatedly hit your bones like zygos, chin, radix, etc etc? If you ignore the swelling and fibrosis, could you be actually making the bone itself worse over time?
