These countries that are "enemies for life" driven by history, religion, territory, or national identity. There's no peacful resolution. You can put them on another planet and they will still fight. Nothing you can do to stop them they will fight until the end, until complete destruction and until the last drop of blood

1. India vs. Pakistan

Core issues: Kashmir conflict, Partition trauma, religious divide (Hindu vs Muslim), multiple wars

Status: Nuclear-armed, tense borders, regular skirmishes

Very strong generations raised with hostility. People from India/Pakistan teach their kids that it is their job is to erase the other country from the map

2. Israel vs. Iran

Core issues: Regional dominance, ideology (Jewish state vs Islamic republic), nuclear threats

Status: No diplomatic relations, proxy wars (e.g., Hezbollah), cyberwarfare

Extremely hostile, mutual threats often in public speeches

3. North Korea vs. South Korea

Core issues: Korean War, political systems (communist dictatorship vs democracy), family separation

Status: Technically still at war (only an armistice) DMZ one of the most fortified borders

Strong hostility, but periodic attempts at diplomacy happen

4. Armenia vs. Azerbaijan

Core issues: Territorial dispute over Nagorno-Karabakh

Status: Recent wars (2020, 2023), ethnic hostility, Russian and Turkish involvement

Deep ethnic and historical hatred. They want each other to wiped out of the face of the earth

5. Greece vs. Turkey

Core issues: Cyprus conflict, maritime borders, historical wars

Status: NATO members but regularly on the brink of military standoffs

Long-standing tension, but some diplomacy remains

Other lowkey lifelong rivalries:

Russia vs. Ukraine (now full-blown war)

Saudi Arabia vs. Iran (Sunni vs Shia influence, recently thawing)

China vs. Taiwan (existential conflict over sovereignty)

I disagree with south korea and north Korea.
They are culturally similar(ofc since the split they have diverged but they still speak the same language) they've only hated each other for 70 years

You forgot south americas but no one cares about them I guess.

These are mostly neighbours and neighbours usually hate each other - especially when they have different religious and cultural make-ups. But its amazing thousands of years ago we would have thought Greeks and Persians were eternal enemies or Romans, Crusaders vs Turks or even Mongols vs the world.

Every modern conflict has a hegemon either - the US or the Russia (historically) backing one side and turning it into somewhat of a proxy war.

Wouldn't say for life. As soon as the regime falls they will be best buddies for sure. They had good (relatively) relations prior to 1979.

You forgot America and Israel. That’s why they only give Israel 3 billion annually instead of 300 billion.

Greco Turkish relations are the most stable. Neither side particularly likes each other, but ironically enough the ethnic transfers that occurred in the 20th century was for the better in the long run.

A population of ~90 million or something and a shared sea yet they aren’t bombing each other. Most significant recent tension was and still is Cyprus.

Unfortunately the Islamist Erdogan upped tensions when converting ancient churches into mosques and especially Hagia Sophia and sending ships to the Aegean.

Must add Serbia vs. Kosovo (I know we are hard to find on a map and not important but it's my duty)

Core issues: Serbia does not recognise its former province as an independent country. Kosovo gained independence through insurgency (terrorism) and NATO intervention (1999 bombing of Yugoslavia). Kosovo is inhabited mostly by Muslim Albanians (need I say more lol) while being a historic Serbian Christian land.

Status: There is a very tight diplomatic relationship forced by the EU. Neither side wants dialogue, and all talks are futile in the end.

Greeks and Turks are both in NATO, and have fought wars on the same side like the second balkan war.

If you back in history you can see the Gokturks and Greeks were Allies against the persians and muslims.
