I’ve been to LA and New York when I was much younger but those are just major cities like London. Doesn’t show the true America I guess

Yeah I’ve always wanted to visit the pacific north west or maybe north New England.

LA and NYC are definitely shitholes. Any major city which is a mixing pot of geographic identities is never worth visiting as a tourist because as you said it doesn't show the true nation. Idaho is a great state to visit in any season, if I had to recommend you go anywhere. Though if you go to Idaho steer clear of Nampa, Caldwell, and Garden City. Otherwise great places for skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, dirtbikes, water sports, etc.

Definitely, public transportation doesn't really exist there. Other places in the PNW that are more tourist heavy you could probably rely on Uber or some kind of national park bus. But renting a vehicle is always the best move when going anywhere, in my opinion.
