Well, basically all amphetamines don't target serotonin at all. Even meth barely has an affinity for SERT because once it's over 0.0001-1Ki it really starts to attach less efficiently than endogenous ligands, thus amphetamines wouldn't even affect serotonin. There is next to no point in taking Adderall if you're going to take it if you're gonna use amphetamines recreationally. It has a weaker half-life (meth is 5-30 hours) and isn't as resistant to monoamine oxidase as methamphetamine is.

I wouldn't dabble with amphetamines, to begin with, substituted phenidates are where it's at. Try some Ethylphenidate and you'll start hallucinating that's how intense it increases dopamine. Or you could opt for isopropylphenidate which is basically Ritalin but with a longer half-life and better metabolite stability.

Dopamine is the more euphoric monoamine, of course, amphetamines will bind to SERT, and subsequently increase synaptic serotonin, but not to the extent as something like MDMA or an SSRI. Most people say they actually can't decipher the difference between Adderall (which is a mix of both levoamphetamine and dextroamphetamine) and methamphetamine, the actual difference is the fact that meth is insanely lipophilic, as soon as you either snort, or inhale that shit, it goes right into the brain full force, the onset and peak start earlier than Adderall does, plus the extensive half-life also ensures that the high last's between 5-30 hours.

what's favourable about phenidates as opposed to amphetamines?

Less addictive, doesn't target serotonin or norepinephrine at all really. They feel cleaner to some, most people view amphetamines as 'dirty' central nervous system stimulants. They feel less euphoric, so you don't get that physical dependency on them, unlike amphetamines. You can also cut short a phenidate high with a CNS downer like alcohol or benzodiazepines, whereas amphetamines, being insanely more intense, can be harder to cut short. IMO if you're just gonna use these compounds recreationally, just use meth. If you're gonna use them more frequently, stick to something like methylphenidate or isopropylphenidate, much safer for the long term.
