The title may seem outrageous, but ask yourself, would you rather be an HTN+ who loses a 6 month battle to cancer at the age of 40 or a sub 5 who lives to 80? What’s more tragic? A life well lived with a suboptimal ending or a life that never began at all? Who endures more total suffering?

At least with cancer one receives sympathy, an understanding that their fate is no fault of their own and nothing more than an unfortunate turn of chance. There is no sympathy for the facially disadvantaged. Someone with cancer complains about their situation. It’s seen as reasonable. But when a sub 5 complains it’s seen as entitlement. The world has no mercy for the genetically handicapped, suffering only matters when it happens to someone who isn’t expected to suffer
