Arunachalam Muruganantham

A school dropout from a poor family in southern India has revolutionised menstrual health for rural women in developing countries by inventing a simple machine they can use to make cheap sanitary pads.

Arunachalam Muruganantham's invention came at great personal cost - he nearly lost his family, his money and his place in society. But he kept his sense of humour.
"It all started with my wife," he says. In 1998 he was newly married and his world revolved around his wife, Shanthi, and his widowed mother. One day he saw Shanthi was hiding something from him. He was shocked to discover what it was - rags, "nasty cloths" which she used during menstruation.

Wanting to impress his young wife, Muruganantham went into town to buy her a sanitary pad. It was handed to him hurriedly, as if it were contraband. He weighed it in his hand and wondered why 10g (less than 0.5oz) of cotton, which at the time cost 10 paise (£0.001), should sell for 4 rupees (£0.04) - 40 times the price. He decided he could make them cheaper himself.

...

He used to wash his bloodied clothes at a public well and the whole village concluded he had a sexual disease. Friends crossed the road to avoid him. "I had become a pervert," he says. At the same time, his wife got fed up - and left. "So you see God's sense of humour," he says in the documentary Menstrual Man by Amit Virmani. "I'd started the research for my wife and after 18 months she left me!"

😛Brutal ngl. Nowadays he would be considered a hero.

I'm not saying she was right to leave him, but a man must devote some time to his family.

My grandma's husband's first wife cucked and divorce raped him. Dude was a major Chad. His problem was he's extremely low IQ. He came from a small coal mining town in West Virgina and was obsessed with sports his whole life. He was one of those dudes who was a superstar in his hometown because of his football (American) prowess. After high school he joined the Navy and continued to play football. Made All Navy and whatnot. He also boxed and played basketball. While on leave he knocked up some sl*t from his hometown and ended up marrying her because of it. After he got out he moved his new family to Michigan and got a job as a janitor at a Ford plant where he ended up working for the next 40 some years. He ended up having another kid with his wife and making a pretty decent life for himself, but he failed to spend time with his family. He was too obsessed with sports and spent many years coaching youth football and basketball during his downtime. Long story short, his wife ended up getting f*cked by her hairdresser and divorce raping him after a year of seeing a lawyer in secret. He had no idea what hit him. One day he just came home from work and found the police waiting for him, telling him he had an hour to pack his stuff and leave. Apparently the b*tch went to the police and lied telling them he beat her up or something. They believed her and kicked him out of his own house without a shred of evidence. This was back in the 80s mind you.

Anyways, the man's got some form of slow progressing dementia. I've heard the story more times, and in more renditions, than I can begin to count. The woman that he married was obviously a useless wh*re in the first place, whatever can be broken must be broken, but I've been able to deduce that the reason it happened was because he devoted too much time to his love of sports. Besides being extremely athletic he was also extremely good looking. He told me how one time he came home to find that his wife had destroyed all the trophies he'd been awarded, along with a bunch of team photographs. He didn't ever figure out why. He was just too low IQ to read between the lines.
