It’s a pretty good analogy for looksmaxing. David thinks he’s special and can handle cyber tech, similarly to how some people think they have a good base and will be able to ascend without getting botched. David keeps replacing his body with chrome, he’s never satisfied, like how looksmaxers are never content with their appearance and think they’re never enough. Eventually, David goes insane from all the tech he’s got on. His pride made him think he could handle it, but he couldn’t. Like how looksmaxers think the only thing stopping them from getting what they want: sex, love, fame, influence, is their looks and if they fixed that their lives would be a lot better. When their lives don’t get any better, they do more extreme procedures until they realise their looks weren’t all that mattered, leading to mental decline
