Title. I would say it's in the Top 3 most desirable fields to get into. Right up there with Al and ML thanks to massive demand, talent shortages, and explosive growth. People are getting mad packages but the catch is that even "entry level" positions demand hands on experience because of the very nature of Cyber Sec roles but if you are cyber security guy with some experience you can make it rain in 2026.

I'm quietly thinking that I messed up my career; it's too demanding and doesn't offer nearly the same opportunities as the technology sector.

Very true, tech has always been a great field to study and get a job, realistically itโ€™s never gonna do down in popularity as we push the limits of tech with ai and what not

Only if your experienced in the field

Newbies get nothing

Breaking into cyber sec is very VERY hard even with degrees

Yes I'm well aware and unlike other times experience here is actually required and it's not just an arbitrary requirement to raise the bar and reduce applications

Yes
People think they can do a comptia course, 'network', learn python and book, get 6 figures
You need like years of sys admin experience for it
The cyber security application count is oversaturated
The actual qualifies cyber security application count is not

Indeed. Proper cybersecurity roles demand experience it's just the nature of work. All thos fresher level intern level positions you see these days are just for tooling and low effort garbage work. Real cybersec roles are high stakes and have real decision making involved
