Dad: "I think you shouldn't waste your money on a holiday. Put it towards a home instead"

What should I do?

Through a friend. We started zooming each other regularly with family included and visit each other from time to time, taking our families.

I really like her so far. We still need to talk more before we make a decision.
Age? Race? Have you done anything w her

Update: dad said if I really want to go, I should take him only, cut it to 1.5 weeks max, and stay in capsule hotels/hostels.

@Prettyboy
Idk why your father is saying how the trip should be when you're the one funding it but still sounds fun under those conditions imo

Wow, it must be nice to have a sensible dad who actually tries to think things through. My dad always encourages me to waste time & money on trivial stuff.

Dad said "the UK doesn't have enough land"
I suppose location is a big part of it. However you can still find land in the UK at a reasonable price, Welsh land costs £6,000 an acre (an acre is half a football pitch) which is more than enough to build a house.

He said they were suggestions, said you'll be spending most of the time outside rather than inside anyway.

Agree with him?
i dont know your mother and sister
i dont know if they would do this

I was attempting to book a flight to Tokyo (stopover in Seoul via Istanbul) but Dad walked in my bedroom and sat down, and said I've worked very hard with keeping and maintaining my savings for the last 2 and a half years and not spending a thing, and it would be disappointing to drop the money on a holiday even though I'd only be funding half of the trip. The girl I'm seeing and want to make my wife wants to come and she's paying for her family's portion but only if I confirm the trip.

He said "up to you but if I were you I'd put that money for a mortgage deposit so you can get a very big house".

"Get married, get a mortgage, then go with your wife."

He said I could also book the tickets and hotel for him and me only, and leave out my sister and mother, but he'd strongly recommend saving the money.

If I take the whole family I could be spending in the teens to early 20s in thousands depending on spending money. If I take me and my dad only it would be drastically cut to 7-8K total (roughly 4-5K for the baseline costs).

I have not travelled overseas for 4 years.

I've got about 40K in my bank account. Fuck taxes.

Thoughts?
Fuck your whole family. Only go with your partner, just lol at your parasite cock-blocking dad. Stop getting guilt-tripped by them and their miserable existence.

yolo

Also, when you're there, spend and try out whatever you like there. Only regret is not trying or affording to want more.

I don't really have experience with traveling but I do think it would be better to limit it somewhat and not bring a lot of people if you go. That's just what I would do. I would think you would end up spending thousands & more than you expected if you were to bring everyone. It sounds fun to go to wherever and have a nice time but really there are so many better things to spend your money on.

tokyo is awesome bro but it’s your life at the end of the day. remember that a house has resale value whereas a plane ticket is just money down the drain

Not sure if there's anything to really see and do much.

Lol if you've got 40k why can't you spend like 2k on a holiday? Stop the cap
Alright; most have now voted to keep the money for a mortgage. I was so close to spending the money this evening:
I'm so close to buying the trip. £2601 including hotels, flights and rail pass for both me and my dad... it's tempting. (stopover in Amsterdam)

Don't date unless you find a girl that's willing to be NEET and live her entire life in a tent alongside you
