There wasn’t specifically a war between Chechnya and Dagestan, but a lot of Dagestanis fought together with the Russians against the Chechen rebels in the 90s

Dagestan and Chechnya are completely different states. Dagestan is like USA with a whole lot of ethnic groups, while Chechnya only has 1 ethnic group, so Dagestan feel more comfortable being united In Russia, rather than being a ethnic state, like Chechnya

As far as i know, there were conflict of interest, the dagestanis were afraid that Independent Chechnya would reclaim lost homelands in Western Dagestan, so they sided with the russians to protect these lands
