When I say I can’t do X until I’m 18, normie Americans tell me,

“What do you mean you can’t? You’re just scared of life. Who cares what your parents say.”

People who grew up in Western-cultured families are used to being able to do whatever the fuck they want. Their parents’ rules are merely suggestions, not mandates. These people cannot comprehend how Asian kids don’t have the same freedom and independence that they take for granted, including:

• Being given allowance money
• Having cash that you can buy things with
• Having gone to playdates and sleepovers as a child
• Having spare time to waste on your phone or watching shows
• Having Netflix
• Having friends come over to your place
• Going to parties
• Being able to go out by yourself, to places like stores, the mall, the cinema, etc. (and go on dates)
• Being able to wear whatever clothes you want
• Your parents not monitoring and restricting your purchases (if you have a job)
• Having a driver’s license at 16, and possibly having your own car and/or total freedom over where you go
• Being able to choose your school courses
• Your parents allowing you to have sex (talking to you about safe sex)

Most American teenagers don’t realize how different life is growing up Asian. “Why can’t you just go to the gym?” they ask me.

Let’s say I got a part-time job, and I made enough money to get a gym membership. My parents don’t approve of me going to the gym, so I’ll have to ride my bike for miles to get to the gym since I don’t have a car. And doing cardio right before lifting weights is pretty stupid.

But if I were to do that, let’s see what happens. When I come back from the gym drenched in sweat, my parents will probably not let me use the computer anymore. Because of that, I’ll have to inconvenience all my teachers by requesting that they print out paper versions of assignments that everyone else does electronically, and writing takes much longer than typing so then I probably won’t even have time to go to the gym.

The White Americans cope, “Just buy your own computer.” You do understand that as long as I’m under the custody of my parents, they can legally take away things I buy, right? And that’s assuming they don’t stop me from accessing my money. Unlike spoiled American kids, if Asian parents decide to open bank accounts for their kids at all, they’re still the ones in control of the account.

So what if, the next day, I attempt to go to the gym again. My parents will simply block the doorway to prevent me from leaving the house. Simple. What am I supposed to do, assault my parents?

I’m waiting to hear what bullshit the Americans are gonna tell me next. Come at me bro.

UPDATE: Another brutal difference is that most American dads want to help their sons get girls, but Asian dads focus on their sons’ education and either don’t care about their sons’ dating success or strictly forbid dating until they go to college. It’s the latter 90% of the time.
