I’m currently in orthodontic treatment with Damon braces and no extractions. Before treatment, my main issues were protrusive upper front teeth, an overbite, and one tooth growing inward. My upper teeth are now straight, and my lower teeth are mostly aligned while space is being created for another tooth to erupt. I have not started elastics yet.
Since treatment began, I feel that my midface/maxillary area looks flatter and less projected than before. I don’t have before-and-after photos, so this is based on what I see in the mirror, and I’m not sure if it’s a real change or just perception.
I’m wondering if retracting or uprighting the upper incisors during Damon treatment (without extractions) can reduce lip support enough to create the appearance of maxillary recession, even if the bone itself hasn’t changed.
Has anyone experienced a similar change in facial appearance during orthodontic treatment for protrusive incisors and overbite correction?
