A large validation study in Denmark compared self-reported height with objectively measured height in the same individuals. The key findings for adult men were:

• Self-reported height: ~180 cm (median)
• Measured height: ~178.2 cm (median)
• Average over-reporting: ~1.1 cm (self-reported taller than measured)

This study included ~6,443 men who had both self-reported and measured values, and overall ~15,692 participants with both types of data — a substantial sample but not a nationwide sample of all Danes.





In simpler terms: Danish men tend to claim about 1.5 - 1.8 cm taller on surveys than they actually are when measured.
