His entourage used excessive force on him. Having your entourage stomping out a guy and re-arranging his arm backwards like that is not self-defense. You're supposed to restrain the guy until the cops come to book him. Dave Chappelle is gonna get sued. All because his boys couldn't restrain themselves, this guy is gonna get the payout he was hoping for.

He had a replica gun, not a real gun. And a knife. And never once did he brandish either the knife or replica gun on Dave Chapelle. Its still excessive force.
If a BBC were to try to rob my house and I knocked him down on the ground and soccer kicked him in the head repeatedly after he's out, I would get charged for aggravated assault. Why should Dave Chappelle be treated any differently just because he's a wealthy celebrity?
Self-defense is supposed to be about neutralizing the threat to you. Once a person is already neutralized, any attacking of them afterwards is excessive force.
