You can do it gaining 1k a month and it won't be a big deal. I've met many people that work in shit jobs and still have cars as a hobby.
Heres the thing. Having cars as a hobby and not having a decent income is a fucking joke. If you ever want to gain some level of financial independence you'll forget about the fucking nsx
Of course that having any hobby that requires some level of income will always be better if one's rich. But it depends on your personal circumstances, some poor guys want to work/enjoy cars and so they try to work to level up their finances and get the best they can the fastest way they can.

You did mention the NSX ahaha. That also depends on our personal circumstances. Some guys have family members that are into cars and so they usually have the connections to work in a place that is in direct contact with them or already have bought nice cars. A friend of mine usually drives a Hyundai i30N because his fathers likes semi sports cars and let me tell you, they to help cope well.
I prefer stock cars tbh
