When i used to drink in the past this was the case for me too. After waking up your body is fresh and has peak concentrations of epinephrine and dopamine, and lowest amounts of adenosine and melatonin. If you drink alcohol it gives you the best gaba euphoric feelings without making you sleepy. In the night if you are sleepy at least it would just make me way too relaxed and sleepy, zero euphoria
