My Chinese is terrible, but I lived there for about 10 years.

Anyways, you don't really learn languages so much as you get used to them. I'd suggest getting a basic comprehension down first using apps and whatnot before incorporating more of the language into your life by consuming as much media as you can. Songs are extremely useful. Listen to a lot of music in your target language and then scrutinize the lyrics. Watch a lot of movies/series in that language too. Focus really hard on listening comprehension during your first 3 to 6 months without putting any pressure on yourself to speak it.

Also, if you're living in the country of your target language you must force yourself to have a social life outside of the English speaking expat bubble. I've known plenty of people who have lived in China for decades even, some of them even married to locals, who can't speak a word of Chinese.

Not much. Giving birth in USA is what sucks though. Even with insurance I paid about 5k out of pocket. It's like every f*cking time the nurses yelled "PUSH!" they charged me $50 or some sh*t. I just glanced over the bill and saw that they charged $50 to take him and lay him on his mother's chest after he came out. It's outrageous. No C-section or anything. Just a standard birth.

Baby food and diapers aren't really expensive. Diapers are the worst thing so far. Like $17 every two weeks. Now he only eats adult food. When he gets older though I'll have to pay about 6k a year for a home school subscription. I won't put him in fag loving woke American schools, but he'll be able to join the local sports teams for free. About the only thing taxes are good for. Wrestling will be mandatory for him during middle/high school age. I want him to know how to grapple and throw his weight around. He's gonna have to take at least 4 years of boxing too, but I'll have to pay for that.

We don't believe in contraception of any kind so we'll probably have more. Actually, since my wife's a full time stay at home mother we do get a good tax return for children. Last year we got about 12k for just him. That will take care of his home schooling. I only make about 2500k a month and we do more than fine.

Yeah, he's only allowed to speak Mandarin with his mother. Mandarin or her village dialect. He spends most of his time with her so that's why I use Chinese with him. He understands Chinese more. I also want to get his grandparents over here to live with us. They're great people. Tough Shandong ren. I spent about 8 months living with them in the village during the beginning of the covid sh*t in 2020. His grandfather will be a great roll model.
