Modern day debates (especially regarding politics religion) are always won by virtue of the debaters knowledge and use of rhetoric rather than the validity of their position. This is true even amongst the most educated and highly respected debaters. The reality is that one single individual will never manage to successfully defend a specific position repeatedly against multiple others who wish to attack it and expressly seek to find weaknesses and flaws within the debater himself and his pool of knowledge rather than his position. There are countless arguments for and against every religion and political ideology, it is simply impossible for one person to not only understand, but to remember and use them (correctly) over the course of multiple debates with different people without even once making a mistake

fr most ppl try to just win them instead of seeing both sides and also most people don't like seeing the other side

that's true, after most debates each side thinks that they have won and don't get any new perspectives on things. This is why something like a discussion or a dialogue is better

True, and it's hard to win a debate over someone who's genuinely stupid

It's kinda strange, motherfuckers will have a 45 minute debate over if god exists, and are surprised when no productive discussion occurs

This is why a deep conversation between people who are all friends/have mutual respect is always superior. People in those settings are able to forgive or look past the other’s gaps in the argument if there are any. Either that we just go back to fucking killing everyone we disagree with like we used to up until recently because debating is gay:lul::lul:
