The 15.23 cm (exactly 6.0 inches) figure that got widely reported is not the raw average of the latest studies. It is the meta-regression model projection after they adjusted for region, age, population type, etc., and extended the trend line to 2021.
Now obviously for this to have any bearing, we would need to consider the individual studies included which make up this regression line:
The 2010–2021 erect mean of 14.55 cm (13.86–15.23) in Belladelli et al. 2023 comes from a relatively small number of studies that reported erect measurements.
The paper included only about 20 studies total across all decades that provided usable erect-length data (out of the overall 75 studies)
