Just because the population average facial index is basically the same for every age over 5 doesn’t mean there aren’t individuals who get significant ratio changes at older ages.

Maybe some people’s faces elongate during puberty while other people’s faces broaden during puberty, and they average out to an unchanging facial index on average. Averages may not apply to individuals.
