For anyone who is currently taking DSIP, or thinking about taking DSIP.

This is a digestible guide through the literature.

Probably not.
In the future, this may be a small part of a much bigger guide on sleepmaxxing.

Will appreciate feedback, and alternative views.

First post here, I was previously on gg, but thought I should diversify.

DSIP

Delta sleep-inducing peptide, or emideltide, is a nonapeptide found in neurons, peripheral organs, and plasma. [1] DSIP was initially regarded as a candidate sleep-promoting factor. [2]

Does exogenous DSIP improve sleep?

DSIP has been shown to slightly improve sleep in insomniacs. Again these improvements have been minimal, two of the five published human trials on DSIP and sleep that actually included a placebo group concluded that DSIP’s effectiveness was weak. [3] [4] Contradicting this, when studies were authored by the optimistic Dietrich Schneider-Helmert, who had direct association with the discoverers, profound benefits were reported, [5] [6] [7] conflicting with what other researchers found. Ultimately, his papers have a higher chance of suffering from confirmation bias, conflict of interest, and methodological flaws.

Currently there is little rationale to invest in it. If you have aced all the other boxes of sleepmaxxing, and are desperate with too much money to spend, and not enough things to spend it on, then you could experiment with it carefully. But of course do your own research beforehand.

The Papers & Their Conclusions

PMID: 3583493 showed that the only statistically significant thing that improved was sleep duration, with the study authors concluding that the sleep improvement was of little clinical significance. [3] PMID: 1299794 showed higher sleep efficiency and shorter sleep latency, but said that these effects were weak and in part could be due to an incidental change in the placebo group. As none of the other measures, including subjective sleep quality, showed any change, it was concluded that short-term treatment of chronic insomnia with DSIP is not likely to be of major therapeutic benefit. [4]

Whereas Dietrich Schneider-Helmert papers claimed efficacy of DSIP for the treatment of impaired sleep and daytime functions, that DSIP has a normalizing influence on human sleep regulation, and that it is also efficacious in humans since it sustains natural sleep functions. [5] [6] [7]

2006 Review [2]

States that even the hypothesis regarding DSIP as a sleep factor is extremely poorly documented and still weak.

If You Are Interested in the Topic

Newer, analogs of DSIP include P-DSIP and DSIP-CBBBP, they appear more promising in preclinical research.

Worth it?

Probably not.
