Dental decompensation before a jaw surgery

Anyone here who went through dental decompensation braces before a jaw surgery, how bad was it lookswise? Did it fuck you up? I'm about to get braces in the next 1-2 months, and I didn't really think about the decompensation phase as something too bad before. But now after browsing r/jawsurgery, some people vent that decompensation fucked up their looks and they don't even want to go outside anymore and now I'm kind of shitting myself here.

Personally not really, my overjet increased from 3mm~ to 7 mm and nobody noticed it

I got braces 10 months ago and the ortho told me that my recession could look worse before the surgery but i didn’t really notice it. Maybe a 1 or 2mm increase of the overbite but im always jutting anyway

Gotchu. Hopefully the braces phase won't be too bad 4 me looks wise, cuz even though I'm class 3, my bite is really good, the ortho even told me that by just looking at my teeth he wouldn't recommend the surgery, but she understood that I want it for aesthetics so she was pretty supportive.

Btw I've seen you quite a bit here talking about surgeries, you have braces on so I assume you are getting a jaw surgery soon, but any other stuff you've done yet?

Yeah my teeth are aligned and good so in my case it might be more noticeable during the decompensation phase.

I looked significantly worse, but solely because the decomp made my front teeth further apart from each other creating diastemas, ig because that’s what undoing camouflage ortho does to a mf.

It was worse at around 1 year of decomp
After that my ortho slowly made the teeth appearance better (closing gaps)

2 years(now)

Effectively I only restarted slaying after those 1 year, which made me realize how much of a looksmin teeth can be

I didn’t get marpe fucking doodoo
I just naturally have a wide smile with tiny teeth


Also marpe and reducing diastemas wouldn’t make sense

But tbf iam not sure wtf my ortho did or if he’s not about to botch my trimax jfl
