Trifarotene and tazarotene are not the same; they are distinct retinoids from different generations with different side effect profiles despite comparable efficacy in treating acne.

Trifarotene (Aklief) is a fourth-generation retinoid, while tazarotene (Arazlo/Tazorac) is a third-generation retinoid.
